Welcome to The Third Model! My name is Damien and I started this site to share my alternative LEGO® models. Each model uses only the pieces included in a single set. Since most LEGO® sets include instructions to build two models, I have called my models The Third Model.

I primarily use LEGO® Technic(TM) for my builds as I am still fascinated by gears, motors, and making something move in an elegant and efficient manner. When building a new set, I like to take my time to learn from how the LEGO® designers accomplished different design goals: be it how they transfered power throughout the body of a model, or give the illusion of sleek super car. My goal with every Third Model is to link it to the main model in some way.

I hope to inspire more people to try designing their own creations with this site. At its core, LEGO® sets are collections of building blocks, and those blocks can be used to build almost anything. However, LEGO® sets are getting larger and more complex meaning that the first piece of any personal creation is one of thousands. Where do you even start? That is why for every Third Model I will share the inspiration behind the build and any intersting techniques I used for the build itself.

I registered this domain years before I had the right combination of time and will power to finally finish documentating my first Third Model, the Tunnel Boring Machine made from LEGO®'s Bucket Wheel Excavator set number 42055. I don't know when I will be able to design, build, and document my next Third Model but I hope it will be soon. Stay tuned!
